On April 10, 2012 Darren Dowell photographed a Elegant Tern at Aimakapa Pond on the Kona coast of the Island of Hawaii. This is the first record for the main Hawaiian Islands. Elegant Terns normally migrate along the North and South American coastlines. Except one Elegant Tern recorded at Johnson Atoll, this is the only other record for the Central Pacific Ocean.
