A first (living) record for Hawaii !
On January 1, 2015 Ross and Melissa Gallardy and Kurt Pohlman discovered this adult Mew Gull (L. c. brachyurus), at the Honouliuli, Pearl Harbor NWR. The only other known occurrence of Mew Gull in Hawaii was a specimen of a first-winter female found dead on Kure Atoll in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands on February 22, 1963. Mew Gulls breed in Alaska and winter south to California. This extremely rare vagrant is 2,400 miles off course.
